It all started in 1906… From a small shed in the Netherlands Mr. Huig van Dam was supplying the local ship building industry with ventilation cowls, the product that kept Van Dam going for 50 years.

From somewhere in the thirties, Van Dam extended the business with various engineered sheet metal specialties - from urinals to mosquito-hatches -,  and in the ’40 and ’50 we designed furniture for ships. The first Van Dam shipdoor was born in 1950, and also in the fifties the factory and offices were further extended. In the sixties we started with the design of wall systems, we were an early adapter of PU foam with aluminum lining. Van Dam was one of the first in the custom-build metal cladding market, and in the ‘70’s we made the first industrially fabricated sandwich panels.

The serious start of the Offshore Oil & Gas Industry in the early 1970's gave us the signal to enter this market with our metal cladding experience, especially in stainless steel, and our expertise in special doors. As a direct spin-off from these activities we entered the world of Infrastructure and Naval Defense projects in the early 1980’s, providing this industry with designed and built-to-order door and hatch specialties. To achieve this we used the experience gained from our Oil & Gas activities, deploying cross-over technology and truly combining the best of these worlds.

As of today, we are very proud what we have achieved in these 110 years, and we would like to thank everyone who is or was part of the Van Dam family for all their efforts.
