In this article we will provide you with the latest update on the Yamal LNG plant project.

The Yamal project is a long-term plan to exploit and bring to the markets the vast natural gas reserves in the Yamal Peninsula, Russia, where temperatures can reach -40oC. The project includes the building of the Yamal liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant. The environmental conditions in this region offers a lot of challenges.
Van Dam has been awarded the LNG project in 2015. The planned launch of the first production is in 2017. Most of the gas will be going to the Asia-Pacific region.

Progress of the Yamal project

Van Dam is responsible for engineering, designing, manufacturing, supplying and supervising a range of fire and blast protective products for the Yamal LNG plant. Up till now, the following modules have been finished of which some are already shipped:

  • At the China's Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC) yard in Qingdao: 7 modules finished of which 5 are shipped to Yamal in Russia;
  • At the Penglai Jutal Offshore Engineering (PJOE) yard in Penglai/Yentai: 5 modules finished of which 3 are shipped to Yamal in Russia;
  • At the China Petroleum Offshore Engineering (CPOE) yard in Qingdao: 2 modules finished and shipped to Yamal in Russia.

Next week, 4 modules will be ready for final inspection at the PJOE yard. Furthermore, we expect that another 2 modules will be finished at the COOEC yard mid-August.

Examples of finished modules

On the 16th of July our supervisor Martin Boersma in China has performed a final inspection on the modules 114-PAU-016 and 114-PAU-026 at the COOEC yard.

These modules will function as Compressor Train HVAC Plant Rooms. The weight of each module is approximately 1200 ton. Van Dam has provided these modules with externals walls, a lower deck, blast relief panels, windows and a roof. Each module has a total of 8000 m2 fire walls.
